Barry Elkanick

Barry Elkanick is an artist who grew up in a small Texas town helping his parents repair fishing boats. He loves to fish. "Murmuration Over Occupied Territory" spans across about a decade worth of work and includes both painting and sculpture. Barry uses almost only found materials with the exception of paint and oil pastel.

"He gives objects second and third lives with understated patinas that suggest he's been carrying them around in his pocket. They seem out of step with time in a profound and thoughtful way built upon a foundation of considerate restraint. While never precious, their size and configuration gesture towards familiar heirlooms or personal treasures." - London Ham
Wall sculptures resemble totems carved from salvaged wood freely drawn on with confident stripes made by thick oil pastels. Every canvas or structure with a backing has both sides painted as if secret messages or images could be hiding under the surface of any object forever unseen.
